Oh spring, how much I missed you.

please help me
I literally have dreams about buying an E60 M5
I do not have money for any more cars
And I know how expensive that car would be to keep running
But that V10 though...

He told me no issues but he's worried if something big happens. I know a couple high mile e60 m5's (one with 100k+) and he just had a small oil leak. The price you can get them for is very tempting, but his plate is the truth.

I feel like it's all luck of the draw
The E90 M3 is supposed to be way more reliable than the E46 M3. But that has not been my experience at all.
This M5 is supposed to be a nightmare. But it hasn't been for all owners.

I've only had a small oil leak on my m3. I'm pretty mechanically inclined so Im comfortable getting something unreliable used as I can diy most things. Then again I kind of want something like a mustang or camaro as I'd have no worries on any repair (or rod bearing threats). Then again nothing drives like a German sports car. But the cost can be a true hit if something big comes up.

Luckily I've been covered by the factory warranty and the after market one I bought
I had multiple issues that the factory warranty covered.
Latest one was covered by the after market warranty. The Siemans servo motor that engages the throttle bodies died. So only half the cylinders were getting gas (each bank has a motor)

I'm still under warranty too so no issues there, but still, an ls block that I can fix with a hammer is tempting. Comparatively, how's the 911? I've heard they're pretty solid too.

The 997.2 912 C2 and C2S are the most reliable cars ever made in the history of the world.
If you want to buy a sports car that requires zero fixing and just needs maintenance then get any Porsche with a N/A DFI H6.
They made up for the IMS issue in the 996 and 997.1 in a big way. The redesigned DFI motors are fucking magic.

Is that Flossy Carter's M5? Because if it is, it has the GTHAUS/Eisenmann race exhaust which may be one of the best sounds in the universe.

No, it was a guy named Henry. Meistershaft gtc, resonator delete, and secondary cat delete. It sounded amazing.

Haha just a comparison in plastic between a v10 and its v8 sibling.

He and Henry have nearly identical M5's and that's what caused the mix up. Anyways I spy a Viper parked across from you (love the HOON plate) don't see many of those!

yes... yes i know.
by the way, have DFI injectors been around long enough that we're able to know what type, or if any long term maintenance/replacement is required beyond whats required for the preceding injector technology? eg, do they necessarily get clogged after 100k mi if not using 93+ octane, requiring all injector out cleaning? i'm still using the old tech.

Yep the viper cruised the 50 miles there with us. He originally had a gtr but I guess he wanted something more suicidal. Thanks, I was suprised the plate was available to be honest.

I have been curious about that myself. From what I've read Porsche's DFI injectors don't seem to get clogged like Audi's do. I read horror stories of DFI Audi V8s needing the carbon cleaning after only 40,000 miles of driving. I haven't been able to find any owners claim that they needed to do the same to their 911 at or before 100K miles.
I have 55K miles on my 997.2. It drives just as nicely as it did when I first got it and fuel economy is the same. It feels good so far.

Neither the S85 V10 in the E60 M5, nor the S65 V8 in the E92 M3 have plastic engine covers. On both engines, he big black plastic bits that you see are the intake manifolds themselves.
